Extra Care Living Old School House

Extra Care Supported Living

Contact us

Our extra care supported living residence, The Old School House, provides security, independence and peace of mind.

Abbeyfield Ferring has been providing extra care supported-living for nearly 40 years giving older people independence in a homely environment.

The Old School House, in the heart of Ferring village, offers quality extra-care living accommodation with a homely, community atmosphere with a little more support when you need it.

Upstairs room with separate WC now available

We have an upstairs room with views of the garden available with small kitchen area and under counter fridge. All our staff and tenants are fully vaccinated and rooms are completely redecorated before new tenants move in. If you are interested, please call us and book a viewing in safety.

Our accommodation is similar to assisted living and sheltered housing models but with an emphasis on our staff and volunteers having time for our residents. We support your independence in your own private studio room with a member of staff on-site during the day, every day plus the added security of a 24-hour call alarm system. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom and a kitchen area equipped for making breakfast, light snacks and drinks. Residents are welcome to furnish their room with items from home.

Our House Manager checks on people each day and is there to assist as and when needed. If personal care is required it can be arranged through our domiciliary care service.

The Old School House

The Old School provides accommodation for eleven people to stay with us. Our aim is to ensure that residents feel safe, secure and comfortable but remain as independent as they can. We support and encourage independence with social activities and events to help keep residents active. There is an emphasis on companionship and the accommodation has a real communal feel.

We have a lovely garden that has recently been landscaped and encourage our residents to get out and about as often as they wish.

Home-cooked meals and a programme of activities

The attractive two-storey house has a lift and safety handrails located around the building. Our newly landscaped walled garden has space to enjoy the sun and do a little gardening. There is an attractive new pond and fountain plus a sunny conservatory which is very popular with residents.

Inside, there are two comfortable living room spaces, one with a communal dining area. Our residents frequently get together for social activities and meet in the dining-room to enjoy freshly cooked meals provided twice every day. We prepare all our meals on-site using locally sourced, healthy produce. The meals are included as part of the housing package.

Support, security and friendship

We are committed to encouraging residents to maintain their independence while offering support, security and companionship as part of our supported-living package.

All of our staff are enhanced DBS checked. Our Home Companions are on hand to provide additional support and friendship.

Prospective residents and their families are encouraged to view the home and spend time with a member of the team who is happy to answer any questions.

Delightful village setting

The lovely village of Ferring maintains a real sense of community. A range of thriving shops, village hall, library, GP surgery, dentist and a historic Anglican Church are all within yards of Old School House. There are several local beauty spots and walks to be enjoyed.

It is easy and convenient to catch one of the frequent buses to Worthing, Rustington, Brighton and other locations, enabling our residents to continue to get out and about and lead fulfilling lives.
